Supposedly someone has found a fairly inexpensive cure for cancer, that none of the pharmaceutical companies want to test because it is a non patentable product, and would not make them any money.
Microsoft is not the real threat

This will be the first in a series of posts looking at the ad campaign that Apple is currently running.
We are gonna start with on the more recent ones and the one that really set me off the edge. Apple making fun of windows for giving cryptic error messages. In general when a Windows box errors, it is gonna give the name of the file that faulted and an idea of what happened. The mystical BSOD also gives allot of relevant information in regards to what happened when the system went down, there is an error that describes what wrong, and what file is suspected of causing the fault. All very good information on what went wrong.
I do have to give it to Apple and their job of spinning the wording on this to cryptic error message, you can’t really describe a kernel panic as an error message, as it doesn’t give you any information at all, or any place to even begin troubleshooting.
Cryptic? Yes, Informative? Yes
Cryptic? Not really, Informative? Not Really
Cryptic? Yes, Informative? Yes
Cryptic? Yes, Informative? Yes
So it appears as though Cryptic error messages seem to be informative, either from Windows or OS X.

In the news today….
See following post.
Kind of a slow news day I don’t think this is even from today, but a friend linked it to me in a conversation today.
Why people really don’t switch to linux
This is a really well written piece, and an angle that I had never considered before as for me installing Linux is a matter of downloading an ISO burning it, installing it and i’m off to the races. With Dell offering Ubuntu pre-installed as early as Tuesday from some reports, maybe it will mean that 2007 is finally the year of Linux on the Desktop.
Again kind of a slow day, but welcome to my blog.
Starcraft 2
It’s finally official, the day Starcraft players have been waiting for years now… Starcraft 2 is official, and well all I can say is I am disappointed. My reasons for being disappointed are entirely selfish, I was hoping for an announcement of something Console based, as I am currently without a computer that can play any games, never mind what it will take to run Starcraft 2. Now that my selfish complaining is over, the early screen-shots and game-play footage looks to be very sound, I would link to some of them but I am sure you have seen them all already. Hopefully I will have a computer capable of playing this by the time it is released, but I doubt I will as my next purchase will be a new laptop, and gaming on a laptop is not something I enjoy, and will not be a concern when I go to look for one.
My new crazy prediction, Diablo 3 will be announced at Blizzcon for PC and Xbox 360, I am basing this on nothing, so don’t take it as news or something that is even gonna happen, but I can always hope.
A open letter to Microsoft
To: Microsoft
Let me start this off as a question, a fairly simple one, and that being, Why? Why are you trying to do this again? Does Linux have you this scared that you need to claim that it violates over 200 of your patents? Why can’t you show the Linux community where these violations are, hell even show the specific companies that are in violation of your patents what they are doing wrong, and let them fix it. I am pretty sure that the companies/persons that are violating these patents would love to get them out of their code, most of these companies/people do not want to be associated with you in any way shape or form and would probably love to get rid of any of these faults that would link them to you.
The saying goes that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, I think you guys have managed to created a situation where you can throw that out the window. What is it you are trying to accomplish here? The only people that are reading news like this are the people that are screaming at you to show us the patents. These are the people that are getting more and more annoyed at your marketing, and attempts to scare people away from Linux. There has been allot of buzz lately on the Internet surrounding Ubuntu and Dell. Has Dell’s decision to start shipping models with Ubuntu pre-installed scared you enough that you are gonna try to stop large corporations from buying them with this FUD? I would say that you sound like a 2 year throwing a hissy fit trying to get attention, but then my 2 year throwing a hissy fit when she wants something is slightly less annoying then what you are trying to do right now, so I guess that would put you somewhere below that.
I think it is time for you as a company to wake up and understand that Linux is here to stay. I am not expecting a version of Office 2007 to ship for Linux any time soon, but maybe try opening up some of your standard for products such as Open Office, build better software and let the people decide what they want, don’t force them to make decisions based off what everyone else is doing. In the long run I think the respect you would gain from the Linux community would far outweigh the profits that you are gonna gain from this FUD campaign that you are trying to run with now. I think you need to take a step back and take a look at what you are doing, and maybe rethink things a little.
Thank you,
